The Toronto Stock Exchange is where Canadian-listed stock trade an incredible amount of times each day. The exchange is fully electronic and hosts over 1,500 individual companies, with all transactions taking place in Canadian dollars.
The exchange was launched in 1861, with only 18 companies initially listed. While initially referred to as the TSE, its abbreviation is now the TSX.

The TSX Venture Exchange is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and is also an entirely electronic exchange.
All of the companies on the TSX Venture Exchange can be classified as small cap. There are over 1,600 companies currently listed on the TSX Venture.

Investing in the Stocks that are listed on the TSX
If you are looking to buy stocks on the TSX, you can do so by purchasing them individually or through a pooled investment like a mutual fund or ETF. Since mutual funds typically come with higher fees than ETFs, we usually recommend the latter.
