Data Sources & Methodology
Transparency is important to us. Here's where we get our data and how we calculate results in our various tools.
📊 Stock Market Data

- Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX)
- TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV)

Stock prices and market data are updated in real-time or with a 15-minute delay, depending on the exchange and data provider agreements.
📚 Investment Research
Wealth Awesome Research pairs market data with our own write-ups. Every special report has a date. We keep the source figures separate from our conclusions.
The Awesome Portfolio™ is our model portfolio of ten Canadian dividend stocks. We hold the ten largest names on our quality list and scale the weights to 100%.
We look at the businesses, not at a label like conservative, balanced, or growth. That means the balance sheet, whether earnings last, whether the dividend can be paid, and how concentrated the list is. The portfolio is all stocks, so it can fall hard. Quality is not the same as low risk.
If a holdings list is not available, we say so instead of filling in a substitute.
The two-ETF mixes are examples of pairing Canadian dividends with global stocks. Both funds are 100% stocks. The mixes are not a personal risk score.
The chart back to 2017 uses the ten companies we held on September 16, 2026, and resets their weights each quarter. Because it already knows which companies lasted, it can look better than a portfolio you could have owned at the time. Taxes and trading costs are not included. We compare it with the S&P/TSX Composite. The C$10,000 view is that same chart in dollars, not a real account. The live portfolio starts separately on September 16, 2026.

💰 Tax Information
Sources:
- Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
- Provincial tax authorities
- Federal Budget announcements
- Official government tax guides

🧮 Calculator Methodology
Mortgage Calculator
Uses standard mortgage amortization formulas:
M = P [ i(1 + i)^n ] / [ (1 + i)^n – 1 ]Where M = monthly payment, P = principal, i = monthly interest rate, n = number of payments
TFSA Calculator
Uses official TFSA contribution limits from the CRA. Accumulates room from the year the user turned 18 or 2009 (whichever is later). Accounts for contributions and withdrawals based on user input.
FIRE Calculator
Based on the 4% safe withdrawal rate (Trinity Study) and the formula: FIRE Number = Annual Expenses ÷ 0.04. Uses compound interest calculations to project years until financial independence.
Income Tax Calculator
Uses official federal and provincial tax brackets from the CRA. Calculates marginal and effective tax rates, and applies standard deductions and credits. Results are estimates and may not reflect your exact tax situation.
Compound Interest Calculator
Uses the compound interest formula for both lump sum and regular contributions:
A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt) + PMT × [(1 + r/n)^(nt) - 1] / (r/n)Where A = final amount, P = principal, r = annual rate, n = compounds per year, t = years, PMT = periodic payment
