This Canada Day, several changes in Ontario are set to impact everyday life in tangible ways. From fuel prices to gig worker pay, the province is rolling out updates that affect how people work, commute, and access support.

While some measures are highly specific—like allowing liquor sales on pedal pubs—others mark broader shifts, including expanded rights for digital platform workers and new protections for those receiving disability benefits. Here's a breakdown of the key changes taking effect on July 1.

1. Yes, You Can Drink on a Pedal Pub Now

  • Booze is now legal on those rolling group bikes.

  • New amendments let pedal pubs sell liquor mid-route.

  • Think wineries, bars, tourists... and a moving barstool.

2. Disability Payments Get a Boost

  • Canada Disability Benefit? No longer counted as income.

  • If you’re on Ontario Works or ODSP, you’ll keep more.

  • Health benefits stay untouched. Finally.

3. Fuel Tax Cuts Made Permanent

  • That 5.7¢ per litre discount on gas? It’s not going anywhere.

  • Propane for road vehicles gets an extra 4.3¢ off.

  • Small relief. Still something.

4. Gig Workers Get a Minimum Wage

  • Ride for Uber? Deliver for DoorDash?

  • You’ll now get at least $17.20/hour—for active time.

  • Not while waiting. Only while moving.

5. New Hires Must Know the Deal—Before Day One

  • Employers with 25+ staff?

  • Must give new workers written details: pay, hours, job info.

  • Before the job starts. Not after.

6. Nurse Practitioners Can Do More

  • Defibrillators, pacemakers, blood testing, death certificates.

  • More authority. Fewer delays.

  • Expanded trust in medical hands.

7. FIFA Can Sell Tickets in Foreign Currencies

  • 2026 World Cup is coming. So is ticket chaos.

  • Ontario will allow FIFA and partners to sell in USD, Euros, etc.

  • Fewer barriers. More fans. Bigger wallets.

8. Tribunal Cases Can Be Reassigned

  • Justice delayed is... too common.

  • If a hearing drags on too long, a new panel can take over.

  • The goal? Speed. The cost? We’ll see.

9. RV Licensing Just Got More Specific

  • Driving a big RV? Rules are changing.

  • Two licensing tiers: Class G/E/F for lighter rigs, restricted Class D for heavyweights.

  • Know your weight. Or risk the fine.

Are you impacted by any of these ?
