If today is your birthday, you’re definitely at the right place (and also, happy birthday to you!). I’m starting this list with the places you can show up to get your birthday deal without any planning ahead of time. All you have to do is bring a government-issued ID, and you are all set.
Otherwise, you can start planning for your next birthday already by registering ahead of time and doubling your freebies on the day of your birthday. One year wiser + planning = more free stuff.
Best Free Birthday Stuff In Vancouver That You Can Get Immediately
No planning is required. Just bring your ID or sign up online, and you’re good to go on your birthday!
1. Cartems Donuts
What you will get: A free donut. And not just any donut; this donut shop markets itself as serving “Vancouver’s best donuts”, and for a good reason.
How to get it: Bring your ID with you on the day of your birthday to claim your donut at one of their two locations in Downtown or Mount Pleasant. Though, I’ll be very impressed if you can walk out of there with only one.
2. Yaletown Brewing Company
What you will get: A free dessert on the house.
How to get it: Just let your server know that it’s your birthday, and be prepared to show your ID. You can book your table ahead of time to make sure you and your party get a table on the night of your birthday without the wait.
3. YYoga
What you will get: A free yoga class (redeemable for you or a friend).
How to get it: If you’ve been eyeing a yoga subscription or already have one with Yyoga, all you have to do is let the staff know that it’s your birthday, and they will include a free birthday class, valid 5 days before or after your birthday.
Normally worth $26, this is a great bonus to claim on top of your existing membership or class pack.
4. Joey’s Restaurants
What you will get: A free glass of bubbly.
How to get it: Let your server know that it’s your birthday and be prepared to show your ID.
5. Denny’s
What you will get: A free dine-in “Build Your Own Grand Slam” breakfast meal.
How to get it: Just bring and show your ID! Only valid on the day of your actual birthday, so consider starting your day here with a hearty breakfast.
In my opinion, Denny’s has one of the best free birthday gift promotions in Vancouver. While most restaurants and cafes require customers to sign up for an app or loyalty program (often several weeks before their birthdays), Denny’s doesn’t have any “fine print.”
Just walk into any Denny’s location on your birthday, show them your ID, and you’ll get your free breakfast. It’s that simple!
6. The Keg
What you will get: A free slice of The Keg’s famous Billy Miner ice cream cake, candle or sparkler included!
How to get it: Let your server know that it’s your birthday, and be prepared to show ID before you dig in.
7. Value Village
What you will get: A special birthday coupon of 20% off of your purchase of up to $50, which can be redeemed anytime during your birthday month.
How to get it: Sign up for their Super Savers Program. The coupon will be emailed or texted to you as long as you have provided your contact details and your birth date when signing up. A win for your wallet and the environment.
8. Red Robin
What you will get: A free gourmet burger along with Red Robin’s famous bottomless fries.
How to get it: Join the Red Robin Rewards program and enter your birth date. You can treat yourself to your free burger at any point during your birthday month. There have been some added conditions recently. It’s a dine-in-only reward, and a minimum purchase of $4.99 is required.
Note: The program also includes an “every 10th item free” promotion which can save you some money if you are a regular customer here.
9. Godiva Chocolates
What you will get: A special birthday offer of a free item or a special discount.
How to get it: Join the Godiva Rewards Club to redeem it during the month of your birthday. Godiva isn’t clear about what they’ll offer you for your birthday. Sometimes they’ll offer you free coupons, or they may even offer to mail a free box of chocolates to your doorstep.
10. De Dutch
What you will get: A free sweet or savoury Dutch pancake (pannekoek).
How to get it: Sign up for De Club membership and enter your birth date. Pop in with your loved ones for breakfast or lunch on the day of your birthday to claim.
If you get your free breakfast from Denny’s, be sure to come here afterwards and get your free lunch! It’s hard to go wrong with two free meals back-to-back.
11. Boston Pizza
What you will get: A free dessert on the house (and possibly more!).
How to get it: Sign up for My BP loyalty program. If you happen to do this on the day of or close to your birthday, you can also redeem your free appetizer on your special day, which you get just for registering. Double win!
12. Sephora
What you will get: A birthday gift within the month of your birthday. Usually of about a $10 value, you have the chance to choose between a couple of different bundle options, each including trial-sized products from a particular cosmetics brand. This is a great way to try a new product or brand that you’ve been looking at.
How to get it: Sign up for the Beauty Insider program online or on the Sephora app any time before your birthday.
Note: This program also allows you to collect points from your purchases, redeemable for money off future purchases or free reward products. But even if you don’t regularly shop here, it’s worth signing up and popping into the store once per year to claim your reward.
13. London Drugs
What you will get: A $5 birthday voucher in your inbox.
How to get it: Join the London Drugs LDExtras program online or on the app by downloading it on Google Play or Apple Store.
Note: This program also comes with other perks, such as an extended return period of 30 days (normally 15) and a $5 voucher for every 10 visits to any London Drugs location.
14. The Alley
What you will get: A free bubble tea drink of your choice.
The Alley has some of the best Bubble Tea in Vancouver. You can build your own drink by choosing your tea base, the type of boba you want, your milk level, ice level, sweetness level, and more. You definitely don’t want to miss out on this one!
How to get it: Download The Alley app on Apple Store or Google Play to sign up and claim anytime before your birthday.
15. Exit Canada Escape Rooms
What you will get: Free admission for yourself in a real-life escape room.
How to get it: Bring a government-issued ID to prove your birthday, and you’re good to go. If you’re busy on the actual day of your birthday, they also offer 50% off your admission two days before or after your birthday.
If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary to do on your birthday, escape rooms are a great alternative to the usual activities. Exit is constantly rotating its escape room concepts, so there’s always something new. The more people you bring, the better chance you stand at escaping and beating the game!
16. Vancouver Theatresports League In Granville Island
What you will get: One free ticket to an improv comedy show during your birthday month.
How to get it: Sign up for their newsletter on their website, and you will receive the details in your inbox.
Note: Parking at Granville Island is free after 6pm!
17. Kentucky Fried Chicken
What you will get: You’ll get a free order of popcorn fried chicken from KFC on your birthday.
How to get it: First, you’ll need to make sure you’re signed up for the KFC VIP rewards program. This will give you exclusive access to promotions and deals and will reward you for being a loyal customer.
Every year, on your birthday, you’ll receive an emailed voucher that you can redeem for a free order of popcorn fried chicken.
18. Get A Free Pizza Hut Side
What you will get: You’ll get a free side order or promotional item from Pizza Hut on your birthday.
How to get it: As a member of the Pizza Hut Rewards program, you’ll automatically receive a free coupon that you can use for food on your birthday. The offer changes every year, depending on their menu and what they’re trying to promote.

19. Free Treat From Papa John’s Pizza
What you will get: 10 points on your Papa John’s Rewards account that you can redeem for menu items.
How to get it: To receive free birthday rewards, you’ll need to sign up for the Papa Rewards program. On your birthday, your Papa Rewards account will be automatically credited with 10 bonus points. 21. Free Pancakes From IHOP
What you will get: A free order of pancakes in the restaurant. The promotion also applies to to-go orders. Although there isn’t an IHOP in downtown Vancouver, you can find an IHOP in Burnaby, New Westminster, and Richmond, which are just a short drive away.
How to get it: Sign up for IHOP’s MyHop Loyalty Program. You’ll automatically receive a voucher every year on your birthday that you can redeem for a free order of pancakes.
You need to sign up for the program at least a week before your birthday. You should receive your voucher about a week before your birthday, and you’ll be given 14 days to redeem it.
22. Blenz Coffee
What you will get: A free handcrafted beverage of your choice. If you’ve already redeemed your free Starbucks in the morning, this is a great way to get some extra energy for the nighttime festivities.

What you will get: A free birthday drink of your choice, available 7 days before and after your birthday. There are no restrictions for your drink, and you can add as many toppings and customizations as you want.
How to get it: Download the Chatime Societea app and sign up. You must make a minimum purchase of $2.50 (before tax) in-store at least 7 days before your birthday to unlock the voucher.
26. The Body Shop
What you will get: A birthday reward in the form of a discount or product, redeemable in-store.
How to get it: Join the Love Your Body club and confirm your birth date. You must make at least one purchase within the 12-month period prior to your birthday to redeem (even if it’s just a couple of days before).
27. Tim Hortons
What you will get: A special birthday offer in the form of a discount or item. Tim Hortons has some really great breakfast/brunch sandwhiches, so this is a great place to start your day off with.
How to get it: Download the Tims Rewards app and sign up at least 7 days before your birthday. You must also make one transaction within the 12 months before your birthday.
28. Starbucks
What you will get: A free drink of your choice.
How to get it: Join the Starbucks Rewards program online or on the app at least 7 days before your birthday. Download here for Android and here for Apple.
If you need a little pick-me-up to get your special day started, you can’t go wrong with Starbucks. While lots of cafes and restaurants only offer a small treat for birthdays, Starbucks lets you go all out.
If you want, you can add 5 shots of espresso, extra toppings, extra syrups, etc., make it a $15 drink, and it’s still free! If you’re ordering multiple drinks or menu items on your birthday, the most expensive item on your ticket will simply be discounted.
