11 Best Coupon Apps in Canada 2024: Save Money the Fun Way

A few years ago, the best way to save money while shopping for groceries or other personal purchases was to clip coupons and take them with you to the store.

Today, paper coupons might not be as popular as they used to be, but that doesn’t mean people don’t enjoy saving money.

Thanks to innovative users and brands quick to take the initiative, there’s no need to clip paper coupons anymore.

Instead, the practice has evolved from setting aside an envelope of paper to using discount codes through smartphone apps.

There is a ton of apps you can use to save money. Let’s dive into my top picks for the best coupon apps in Canada.

The Best Coupon Apps in Canada

From online shopping to grocery and household goods, you can be sure that there is a free app or service offering significant savings. Consequently, saving money has never been easier.

With so many coupon apps in Canada, it can become overwhelming to decide which will work best for you. So, I’ve compiled a list of the best Canadian coupon apps that you can download and use.

1. Flipp

Flipp logo
  • Flipp is available as a desktop web application and as an Android and iOS app.
  • It shows you the best deals based on what you are shopping for.
  • It lets you set notifications for expiring deals in your area.

Back in the day, when flipping through store flyers to find the best deals on groceries was the thing, it usually takes a long time to find eye-popping deals to save money. Flipp is a Canadian coupon app that takes away all the time-consuming effort by consolidating all the best deals on one easy-to-navigate app.

Flipp compiles all the weekly circulars in your area into one place so that you do not have to flip through multiple store flyers to check for the best deals and discounts.

The app also shows you the most popular and trending deals that may interest you. It also lets you set notifications for expiring offers to ensure you get the best deals on time.

The list feature on the app lets you make a shopping list and then shows you the best deals in the area for the items on your list, making it an efficient and time-saving app. Additionally, you can combine the best deals you find through Flipp with other Canadian coupon apps to increase your savings through this app.

2. Save.ca

Save.ca logo
  • Save.ca is available on Android and iOS.
  • It lets you print coupons that you can use for in-store purchases.
  • You can combine its coupons with other cashback apps for more savings.

Save.ca is another Canadian coupon app that you can use to save a lot of money. It works similarly with Flipp in that it shows you flyers with the best deals. However, the difference with Save.ca is that you can also click on the available coupons and have them sent to your email address. You can then print out the coupons and haul them to the store in an old-fashioned way.

The coupons available through Save.ca are SmartSource.ca coupons. These are excellent coupons for P&G products.

Note that Save.ca isn’t widely available to all Canadians. It seems to be an Ontario-based app because you need to have a Torstar (Toronto Star) account to access it.

You can’t link any credit cards or debit cards to Save.ca since the platform works exclusively with PayPal. Instead, the money you save through the app’s coupons accumulates in your Save.ca account. You can transfer the amount to your PayPal account and cash it out when you have at least $5.

Save.ca frequently features coupon offers for no-name products, such as any dairy milk of 1L or more or any popsicle size or brand, making it an attractive Canadian coupon app to consider.

3. Swagbucks

Swagbucks logo
  • Swagbucks is available as a browser extension and as an app for Android and iOS.
  • It offers several gift cards each day.
  • You can earn money through the app in multiple ways.
  • Get a $5 signup bonus here

Swagbucks is a big name that has been around for a while and is popular among financially savvy Canadians who love to find ways to save money. It is more than a Canadian coupon app; Swagbucks is an online digital rewards platform that gives Canadians several ways to make and save money online. It offers everything from surveys and games to cashback deals and coupons.

Unlike the other Canadian coupon apps I’ve listed so far, Swagbucks has a different approach. By partaking in various activities, like games and surveys, on the app, you can earn reward points called Swagbucks or SBs. Once you compile enough SBs, you can then cash them out directly as money through PayPal or use Swagbucks to get gift cards for major retailers.

Swagbucks partners with over 1,500 retailers for coupons, including Amazon, Nike, Best Buy, Starbucks, and many other big names. You can also download the Swagbucks Chrome and Firefox extensions to use while shopping online on your computer.

Swagbucks is quite popular because you can make money through contests, searching the internet, watching videos, answering surveys, and playing games. Therefore, it can be an excellent way for you to make some extra money online.

4. Reebee

Reebee Logo
  • Reebee is available as an app on Android and iOS devices.
  • It lets you browse recent flyers in your area to find good deals.
  • It offers the best-in-class search feature to help you find the coupons you need.

Reebee is another Canadian coupon app that helps you save a lot of money while shopping for almost everything.

If you do a lot of grocery shopping, flyers typically happen to be the best way to save some money. Unfortunately, it can become challenging to find the right flyer with ideal coupons that give you excellent deals on what you are shopping for at a particular time.

Reebee makes the process simple for you through a no-nonsense and simple interface that brings together all the flyers from your area into a single app.

The app boasts the best-in-class search feature that helps you find the necessary coupons based on what you are shopping for on a particular shopping trip.

The app interface is the most elegant feature about it, featuring a selector that lets you switch the category of flyers you want to browse.

You can also make an account and sync the app through several devices. You can even create a shopping list while you are home and then use the different flyers to get the best deals for all the items.

5. Caddle

Caddle logo
  • You get $0.50 for activities like accepting a newsletter and sharing your province, postal code, and age.
  • Caddle is available for free on Android and iOS.
  • You get paid to answer surveys and watching short video ads.

Caddle is another excellent Canadian coupon app that offers high-value coupons to let you get cash back on grocery purchases. Available exclusively in Canada, it compiles the best coupon offers available at any given time so that you can browse through weekly offers that renew each Thursday.

All the discounts you get through the coupon app accumulate with the platform, and you have the option of cashing out when your account balance reaches $20 or higher. In fact, Caddle sends you a check to your address if you place a request to cash out.

The app also boasts other ways in which you can earn rewards each week. For instance, they send out short and paid surveys related to different brands that you can easily fill, and you get paid for watching video ads. You can also get $1 in your account and high-value coupon offers when you refer friends to the app.

Caddle does not offer the same variety as some other coupon apps. As a result, you might find yourself saving less money because not all the products you buy might offer coupon deals. However, its paid surveys and videos make up for that drawback.

6. Checkout 51

Checkout 51 logo
  • Checkout 51 is available for free for Android and iOS.
  • It also offers coupons for non-name items like bananas or milk.
  • It is free to signup, and you get $5 for signing up and redeeming free offers.

Checkout 51 has to be—hands down—one of the best savings apps available to Canadians. Like Caddie, Checkout 51 is a cleverly designed Canadian coupon app that helps you get discounts on your favourite products. The app helps you reduce your shopping bill by offering high-value coupons for cash back on popular grocery store items.

The app provides a new and comprehensive list of items that offer coupon discount deals, such as milk, flour, soup, and much more. You can save $0.50-$1.50 on various items. Some items also offer discounts even higher than that.

You have to upload the receipt once you make your purchase online or in-store so that Checkout 51 will add the amount you saved through the discount coupons to your account. Once you reach $20, Checkout 51 will send you a check.

One major drawback about this app is that it requires a packing slip as proof of purchase for things you buy online. However, there are online shops like Amazon.ca that typically don’t provide such slips. This might make your Amazon purchases ineligible for the coupons.

Still, Checkout 51 offers plenty of high-value coupons for a wide range of groceries and household products, along with occasional free product samples. For me, this makes up for the minor drawback.

7. FlashFood

flashfood logo
  • FlashFood is available for free on Android and iOS.
  • You can get up to 50% discount on various food items.
  • You can earn a referral bonus of $7 for each person you refer to the app.

FlashFood is another amazing coupon app that makes shopping for food items a far more convenient and affordable affair. It helps stores make sure that they don’t have to throw out items past their expiry date.

Available on Google Playstore and Apple’s App Store for free, the app lets you find amazing discount deals on foods with lower shelf life, resulting in reduced shopping costs for you and reduced food wastage.

You can sign up on the app and use its database to check out what is available in nearby stores. You can use the app to get discounts while shopping online or while you are at the store.

FlashFood has partnered with several big-name stores throughout Canada to expand the possibility of Canadians getting amazing discount coupons while reducing food wastage. With names like Loblaws, Superstore, Zehrs, Provigo, Maxi, and No Frills already under its belt, FlashFood allows you to get discounts on most food items you purchase daily.

FlashFood lets you get massive discounts of up to 50% on food items. Some of the items listed are just two weeks away from their expiry dates, so the stores selling them are eager to let them go for a significant discount rather than letting them go to waste.

8. Savealoonie.com

Savealoonie.com logo
  • It doesn’t have an Android or iOS app.
  • It offers printable, digital, and mail-order coupons.
  • It features a coupon match-up section for major Canadian retailers.

Save a Loonie is another excellent resource if you are searching for Canadian coupon apps that can help you cut down on your costs. Unlike most other apps in this list, Save a Loonie is not available as a smartphone app on Android or iOS devices. Instead, it is a website that you can access through any device with a web browser, such as your phone.

You can find a ton of excellent coupons in one place on this website. You can print them out, use them as digital coupons, or order them by mail if you do not have a printer at home but prefer physical coupons.

Save a Loonie features a coupon match-up section that consolidates coupon deals from all of the big names in the Canadian grocery retail space. The platform updates the coupon offerings each week to help you get the latest deals.

You can also find a decent selection of fast food coupons that you can print out to get your favourite fast food at a discount. Additionally, there is a section on the website that lets you enter a contest to win free stuff and another section that tells you where you can find free stuff all over Canada.

9. Rakuten

  • One of the world’s largest coupon apps.
  • Earn cashback and take advantage of coupons.
  • Partnered with over 750 brands.

Rakuten offers a user-friendly platform that enables you to earn cashback rewards and take advantage of exclusive discounts while shopping at your favourite online stores.

The app works by partnering with over 750 brands and stores where you already shop, such as Walmart, Canadian Tire, and Staples.

When you make a purchase, these stores pay a commission to Rakuten, which is then shared with you as cashback, which can be redeemed for PayPal credit, gift cards, or a paper cheque.

In addition to cashback rewards, Rakuten also provides access to over 5,000 coupons, allowing you to save even more on your purchases.

10. Drop

  • Fast, easy-to-use interface.
  • Earn cashback and take advantage of coupons.
  • No receipt scanning necessary.

The Drop app is a popular loyalty rewards program that offers users an easy way to earn cashback rewards from day-to-day purchases.

Users link their credit and/or debit cards to the app and earn points when they shop at over 500 brands, complete reward surveys, and other in-app activities.

Rewards and coupons range from groceries and gas to fashion and travel.

Unlike Checkout 51 and other more traditional couponing apps, Drop doesn’t require receipt scanning or promo codes, which helps you focus on your shopping.

11. Valpak Local Savings App

Valpak is one of the largest coupon distributors in North America, and you may already receive Valpak coupon books in the mail. However, Valpak also offers an easy-to-use app, so you don’t have to cut out paper coupons.

The Valpak Local Savings App has a user-friendly interface that allows you to search by store, category, or name, bringing local savings to your Android or iOS device.

The app also offers exclusive deals for restaurants, auto care, entertainment, beauty, home & garden, health/medical, and professional services.

One of the coolest features of the app is that it offers an Apple Watch extension, allowing you to scan your coupons at checkout by simply tapping your watch by the register.

Types Of Coupon Apps

Before you go grocery shopping with cashback apps, it helps to understand how coupon apps work, as each app has its own unique features, benefits, and drawbacks.

Generally speaking, there are two types of coupon apps:

  • Traditional coupon apps
  • Online coupon apps

Traditional coupon apps are the most similar to a classic couponing experience. They’re essentially a simplified version of the coupon books you’d receive in the mail back in the day.

Examples of these include Flipp and the Valpak Local Savings App.

The only difference is that you don’t have to flip through the pages, cut, and save the coupons.

Instead, you can swipe through the app, use the search feature to find specific coupons, and automatically save them to your virtual coupon portfolio. These apps often browse through local flyers, accumulating deals for users.

Some also offer printable coupons.

Once you’re at the store, you can pull the coupons up and have the cashier scan them so that you can save.

Online coupon apps are popular among online shoppers. Examples of these include Rakuten, Drop, and Swagbucks.

These apps allow you to save money when you shop online with your favourite online retailers like Nike, Best Buy, and others. Whenever you purchase through the coupon app (or its accompanying desktop extension), you’ll earn cashback that can be redeemed for PayPal credit, gift cards, and other rewards.

You can also stack your cashback savings with special discounts and coupon codes that may only be available to the coupon app’s users.

Maximize Your Savings With Coupon Apps

Coupon apps are powerful tools for saving money, especially if you use them wisely. Here are some clever strategies to help you maximize your savings.

Plan your shopping

Before heading to the store, browse through the coupon app to see what deals and discounts are available. This is especially important with traditional coupon apps like Flipp or Save.ca.

Take note of the items that have coupons or cashback offers and plan your shopping list accordingly.

Stack Coupons And Promotions

Many coupon apps allow you to stack multiple coupons or combine them with other in-store promotions.

Take advantage of this feature by using both manufacturer coupons and store coupons for the same item. Additionally, look for opportunities to combine coupons with ongoing sales or loyalty programs to maximize your discounts.

Lookout For Time And Date-Specific Deals

Keep an eye on the expiration dates of coupons in the app.

Plan your shopping trips around coupons that are about to expire to ensure you don’t miss out on savings.

Some coupon apps may also offer exclusive deals during specific times or days of the week, which could help you save even more.

Share And Swap Coupons With Other Users

Some coupon apps offer a community aspect, allowing users to share and swap coupons or promo codes.

Engaging with other users by sharing and receiving coupons can help you access a wider range of discounts and coupons. Perhaps you have a coupon the other user is interested in and vice-versa.

Keep Your Coupons Organized

Managing multiple coupons and offers can be overwhelming, especially if you’re using multiple apps.

Thankfully, most coupon apps feature a virtual “folder” where you can organize coupons and promo codes. This ensures they don’t get lost in the long list of coupons available on the app and makes them easy to pull up when it’s time to checkout.

Final Thoughts

The best thing about these Canadian coupon apps is that you can use several of them together to maximize your savings, depending on the features and benefits each of them offers.

These coupon apps are not the only way you can save money. If you are looking for more ways to save money by paying lower taxes and saving on things like transportation, food, and other items, I’ve made a comprehensive guide on how to save money that will be worth your while.
