Free TV is the best TV, right? Whether you’re looking for movies, want to catch up on your favourite Canadian tv shows, or just watch the evening news, here are the best free streaming TV options in Canada.

YouTube

When it comes to totally free streaming services, it’s hard to beat YouTube.

These days, I honestly spend more time watching YouTube shows on my phone than I do in front of a television screen. Thanks to the widespread availability of HD cameras, anybody can start their own TV series and be the star of the show with YouTube.

There are a staggering 15 million active content producers on Youtube, so there are bound to be multiple channels that you will really enjoy.

Aside from pure entertainment content, YouTube is also an amazing resource for learning and education as well. I often use it to catch up on the latest market news, watch inspiring travel vlogs, learn about emerging technology, and get some fresh business ideas.

YouTube also offers free movies from time to time, which I’ll take advantage of whenever I have some downtime. Parents can also create separate kid-friendly profiles to filter the content that their kids can watch on the app.

The Roku TV Channel

You don’t even need to create an account! Just visit the website, and you can start watching TV and movies immediately.

The platform is ad-supported, so expect some commercial breaks when switching between channels or during the middle of movies. The only other downside is that the main site can be a bit slow and laggy due to the excessive amount of on-page ads.

Other than that, though, it’s a top-tier free streaming service.

HGTV

Personally, I enjoy some of the travel content on Slice.

Unfortunately, their free site doesn’t offer full-length episodes. If you want to catch up on full Food Network episodes, you’ll need to subscribe to GlobalTV. Then, you’ll be able to add the Food Network channel to your account and watch full episodes.

BNN Bloomberg

A lot of Vice’s content tends to be a bit controversial, which is what makes their shows so engaging and interesting.

Free users can watch some full episodes, short clips, and news stories. If you’ve already added Vice TV to your existing cable or online TV subscription, then you’ll have unlimited access to stream all full Vice TV episodes.

Kanopy

Traditional streaming apps can be a bit risky, as far as kids are concerned. One second they’re watching cartoons and the next second they’ve somehow managed to start playing an R-rated movie.

TVO Kids is a 100% kid-friendly, safe streaming site for children’s shows and educational content. The site is easy-to-navigate, lets kids watch live TV, and even offers some educational games as well.

There aren’t any movies or shows for teens and adults, but it’s perfect if you’re looking to keep your kids occupied and engaged with some safe television.

Omni TV

The main downside of Omni TV is that they don’t have a lot of content. In total, their site offers around 65 episodes, documentaries, and news channels. Personally, I’m more of a fan of Pluto TV, but Omni TV is still worth knowing about if you’re into global news.

Vision TV

Vision TV is a channel offered by most Canadian cable and satellite TV providers. If you’re already subscribed to Vision TV, then you can stream all past episodes, series, and movies on their website.

If you’re not a Vision TV subscriber, then you’ll still be able to enjoy a fair amount of free content as well. They offer individual episodes of some of their most popular reality TV series, dramas, and documentaries.

Most of their free content is a bit outdated, but it’s still good entertainment and can be watched without signing up for a membership.

CPAC

TSC – The Shopping Channel

Netflix

Amazon Prime Video

Discovery+

The only downside worth mentioning about Sundance Now is that they don’t have as many mainstream titles as Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video. However, the audience that Sundance caters to usually isn’t looking for mainstream content.

FuboTV

AMC+ offers a vast selection of horror titles, movies, true crime documentaries, dramas, thrillers, and more. Also, if you’re a fan of the Walking Dead series, AMC+ has every episode of every spin-off series as well!

The only downside is that there’s not a lot of kid-friendly content, so it might not be the best option for families. It’s great for teen and adult audiences, though.
