What is Exempt from GST/HST?

What is the GST rate in Canada?
The federal GST rate is 5%. Some provinces combine it into an HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) of 13% (Ontario) or 15% (Maritime provinces).
What is the Quebec sales tax rate?
Quebec charges 5% GST + 9.975% QST (TVQ) = 14.975% total on most purchases.
Does Alberta have PST?
No. Alberta is the only province with no provincial sales tax. Only the 5% federal GST applies.
How do I calculate HST from a total price?
To find the pre-tax price: divide the total by (1 + tax rate). For Ontario (13% HST): $113 total ÷ 1.13 = $100 pre-tax. The HST is $13.
What is the difference between GST and HST?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is the federal 5% tax. HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) is a single combined tax used in Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and PEI that blends the federal GST with the provincial tax for simplicity.
